PROCESS COUNTS IN A WAREHOUSE TOO

The importance of process controls and continuous improvement has been recognized in manufacturing for years but it is just as important in a warehouse environment.   SSMG uses standardized processes, locations, and procedures for each step; from receiving to storage to shipment, process controls are in place.  We measure our processes daily and make sure they are stable.  When we see an excursion from the norm we investigate to see what went wrong and why.  Our goal is to discover and implement an irreversible corrective action–or poke yoke– to prevent recurrence.  In the first year of our program, we made over 150 process adjustments and changes to improve flow and reduce errors.  Continuous improvement is now part of our culture and we depend on it daily.  Our entire team embraces the concept and looks for ways to do things better, faster and cheaper.
